Privacy notice

Who we are
Hyperbolic Orange is run by Alexandra Carr. She decides how your personal information is used, which makes her the controller of it under UK data protection law. You can contact us at contact@hyperbolicorange.org.
This notice covers our website, hyperbolicorange.org, and our newsletter.
What we collect
- If you sign up to our newsletter: your email address, and a record of when you signed up.
- When you visit the website: our hosting company keeps standard technical records, such as your IP address and the pages you asked for, so the site works and stays secure.
Our website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers.
Why we use it, and on what basis
- The newsletter: to send you news about exhibitions, events, artist projects and other Hyperbolic Orange news. We only do this with your consent, which you give by signing up.
- Website records: to keep the website working and secure. This is in our legitimate interests, and in yours as a visitor.
Email opens and clicks: our newsletter service records whether you open our emails and which links you click. We use this to see what interests readers and to keep our list tidy, for example by removing addresses that never open our emails. You agree to this when you sign up, and you can stop it at any time by unsubscribing.
You don’t have to sign up. If you don’t, you simply won’t get the newsletter. We don’t make any automated decisions about you.
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. These organisations help us run the website and newsletter, and only use your information on our instructions:
- Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France) sends our newsletter and keeps our mailing list.
- Vercel (Vercel Inc., USA) hosts the website and keeps its technical records.
- Luke Duff (lukeduff.co.uk), our web developer, who builds and looks after the website and these accounts.
Information sent outside the UK
Brevo keeps our mailing list in the European Union, which UK law treats as giving adequate protection. Some of the companies Brevo works with are in the USA, and Brevo’s contract with us includes safeguards for that. Vercel is based in the USA and is certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which UK law recognises for sending information to certified US companies.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: while you’re subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a “do not email” list, so we never email you again by mistake, and use it for nothing else.
- Website records: only for as long as our hosting company’s standard records last. We don’t keep our own copies.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to limit or stop using it, or ask for it in a form you can take elsewhere. You can withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any time, using the unsubscribe link in every email or by emailing us. To use any of these rights, email contact@hyperbolicorange.org. We’ll reply within one month.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first at contact@hyperbolicorange.org. We’ll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk, or 0303 123 1113.
Changes
If anything here changes, we’ll update this notice and the date at the top.
